Comparison

# Clock Clerk vs ClickUp: an honest comparison

ClickUp is a work manager first: tasks in every view, docs, whiteboards, automations and AI, with time tracking built in. Clock Clerk is built around the monthly sign-off and the invoice that follows it. Here is where each one wins.

The questions buyers ask

## Side by side, question by question

| Question | Clock Clerk | ClickUp |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Timesheet approvals | **Every plan, Free included.** One reviewer approves each person's calendar month. Approved hours are locked, and a send-back carries its reason. | **On the higher plans:** limited on Business, unlimited on Business Plus and Enterprise. People submit a week, and an approved one cannot be edited. |
| Project boards | **Every plan.** A board per project with your own columns; each card has an hour estimate and its own thread. No Gantt, sprints or dependencies. | **Every plan, Free included.** Boards, lists, Gantt charts, calendars, docs and automations. |
| Client collaboration | **Starter and up.** Clients join a project's threads as guests, at no charge. They do not see boards, hours or invoices in the app. | **Guests**, a set number per plan with more for each paid seat; read-only guests are unlimited on paid plans. |
| Invoices from approved time | **Team.** A draft takes the client's approved, billable hours at your rates and locks them while the invoice stands. US dollars, one tax rate, no online payment. | **No.** ClickUp does not invoice; billing tracked time takes another tool, such as Everhour. |
| Timer and mobile app | **Neither.** Hours are typed per day and task in the browser, which fits a phone screen. No timer, idle detection or app to install. | **Yes.** Timers on the web, desktop and phones and in a browser extension. |
| Scheduling and time off | **No.** A holiday calendar lowers targets on public holidays, but there is no capacity plan, leave request or balance. | **A Workload view** where personal time off lowers capacity. No leave requests or balances. |
| Accounting export | **Team.** Hours, costs and expenses go to QuickBooks Online or Desktop; Enterprise adds other ERPs. Invoices stay in Clock Clerk. | **Not for hours** that we could find. Its QuickBooks integration does not carry time. |
| Who is charged | **Only the people who log hours that month.** Approvers, administrators, finance readers and client guests are free. | **Every member.** Guests are free within each plan's allowance; AI is a per-seat extra. |
| Free plan | **Up to 3 people**, 10 active projects and 20 clients, with approvals, boards and expenses. | **Unlimited members**, with little storage and capped time tracking; no approvals. |
| Sign-in and single sign-on | **Single sign-on from Starter**, at $3 a filer: Okta, Google Workspace, Microsoft 365 or any OpenID Connect provider. Free signs in with a password, with two-step sign-in and passkeys. Provisioning from Okta or Entra ID over SCIM is on Enterprise. | **Google from Business, the rest on Enterprise.** Signing in with Google comes with Business and up; Microsoft, Okta and custom SAML single sign-on, and SCIM provisioning, need Enterprise, which is priced by quote. |

Cost

## What it costs a 15-person company

Fifteen people who all log time, on the plans with timesheet approvals. ClickUp has no invoicing, so its figures leave out the tool you would bill from. ClickUp's list prices as published in October 2026.

| Product and plan | Per person / month | 15 people / month | 15 people / year |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Clock Clerk Starter, for up to 15 people who log hours: approvals, boards, expenses and client threads, without invoices | $3 | $45 | $540 |
| Clock Clerk Team: adds invoices, contractors and the QuickBooks export | $6 | $90 | $1,080 |
| Clock Clerk Team, when 3 of the 15 only approve and log no hours | $6 | $72 | $864 |
| ClickUp Business, billed annually: approvals limited | $12 | $180 | $2,160 |
| ClickUp Business Plus, billed annually | $19 | $285 | $3,420 |
| ClickUp Business Plus, billed monthly | $29 | $435 | $5,220 |

Clock Clerk bills each month for the people who logged hours in it. There is no annual plan, so there is no annual discount either. List prices in US dollars, before tax.

When to choose them

## When ClickUp is the better choice

ClickUp manages far more kinds of work than Clock Clerk does. Choose it if any of these is what you need.

- #### Projects are the main event

ClickUp has lists, boards, Gantt charts, docs, whiteboards, automations and AI. Clock Clerk's boards are columns and cards, with no Gantt, sprints, dependencies or docs.
- #### A timer on every device

ClickUp times work in the browser, on the desktop, on phones and in an extension. Clock Clerk has no timer; hours are typed.
- #### Your company already runs on ClickUp

Turning on its timesheets keeps everyone in one tool. Clock Clerk imports tasks from Jira, Azure DevOps, Trello and Notion, not from ClickUp.
- #### You do not bill for time

If hours are for planning rather than invoicing, ClickUp's weekly timesheets may be all you need.

When to choose us

## When Clock Clerk is the better choice

Clock Clerk is not a work manager. It is for firms whose hours become invoices and pay.

- #### You bill clients for time

Clock Clerk has rate cards on every plan and invoices from approved hours on Team. ClickUp needs another tool for both.
- #### You want approvals without the top plan

Approval is on every Clock Clerk plan, Free included. In ClickUp, unlimited approvals start on Business Plus.
- #### Hours have to reach accounting

Team exports hours, costs and expenses to QuickBooks Online or Desktop.
- #### Managers and finance should not cost seats

ClickUp charges for every member. Clock Clerk charges only the people who logged hours that month.

Questions

## Asked while comparing

**Can Clock Clerk import our ClickUp tasks?**

Not directly. Task imports, on Team and Enterprise, cover Jira, Azure DevOps, Trello and Notion, and hours logged in ClickUp do not come across on any plan. Most teams start on the first day of a new month.

**Can we use both?**

Some teams do: plan in ClickUp, and record, approve and invoice the hours in Clock Clerk. The two are not connected, so each task is kept in both by hand.

**Why does a Clock Clerk page say where the other product is better?**

Because a trial would show you the gaps anyway, a week later. These pages are checked against each product's published plans and help pages on the date at the top. If something here is wrong or has changed, write to us and we will correct it.

## Try it on a month of your own hours
