Comparison

Clock Clerk vs ClickUp: an honest comparison

ClickUp is a work manager first: tasks in every view, docs, whiteboards, automations and AI, with time tracking built in. Clock Clerk is built around the monthly sign-off and the invoice that follows it. Here is where each one wins.

Checked against ClickUp's published plans and help pages in November 2026. Plans and prices change, so confirm them on ClickUp's own site before you buy.

When to choose them

When ClickUp is the better choice

ClickUp manages far more kinds of work than Clock Clerk does. Choose it if any of these is what you need.

  • Projects are the main event

ClickUp has lists, boards, Gantt charts, docs, whiteboards, automations and AI. Clock Clerk's boards are columns and cards, with no Gantt, sprints, dependencies or docs.

  • A timer on every device

ClickUp times work in the browser, on the desktop, on phones and in an extension. Clock Clerk has no timer; hours are typed.

  • Your company already runs on ClickUp

Turning on its timesheets keeps everyone in one tool. Clock Clerk imports tasks from Jira, Azure DevOps, Trello and Notion, not from ClickUp.

  • You do not bill for time

If hours are for planning rather than invoicing, ClickUp's weekly timesheets may be all you need.

When to choose us

When Clock Clerk is the better choice

Clock Clerk is not a work manager. It is for firms whose hours become invoices and pay.

  • You bill clients for time

Clock Clerk has rate cards on every plan and invoices from approved hours on Team. ClickUp needs another tool for both.

  • You want approvals without the top plan

Approval is on every Clock Clerk plan, Free included. In ClickUp, unlimited approvals start on Business Plus.

  • Hours have to reach accounting

Team exports hours, costs and expenses to QuickBooks Online or Desktop.

  • Managers and finance should not cost seats

ClickUp charges for every member. Clock Clerk charges only the people who logged hours that month.

Questions

Asked while comparing

Can Clock Clerk import our ClickUp tasks?

Not directly. Task imports, on Team and Enterprise, cover Jira, Azure DevOps, Trello and Notion, and hours logged in ClickUp do not come across on any plan. Most teams start on the first day of a new month.

Can we use both?

Some teams do: plan in ClickUp, and record, approve and invoice the hours in Clock Clerk. The two are not connected, so each task is kept in both by hand.

Why does a Clock Clerk page say where the other product is better?

Because a trial would show you the gaps anyway, a week later. These pages are checked against each product's published plans and help pages on the date at the top. If something here is wrong or has changed, write to us and we will correct it.
