Clock Clerk vs Clockify: an honest comparison

Clockify is a time tracker, with a timer on every device and a low price per seat. Clock Clerk is built around the monthly sign-off: boards, client threads, approvals and invoices made from the approved hours. Here is where each one wins.

Checked against Clockify's published plans and help pages in November 2026. Plans and prices change, so confirm them on Clockify's own site before you buy.

The questions buyers ask

Side by side, question by question

QuestionClock ClerkClockify
Timesheet approvalsEvery plan, Free included. One reviewer approves each person's calendar month. Approved hours are locked, and a send-back carries its reason.Standard and up. People submit a week or a month; approved time cannot be edited until the approval is withdrawn.
Project boardsEvery plan. A board per project with your own columns; each card has an hour estimate and its own thread. No Gantt, sprints or dependencies. Not in Clockify. Boards and tasks are Plaky, a separate product from the same company, bought on its own or in a bundle.
Client collaborationStarter and up. Clients join a project's threads as guests, at no charge. They do not see boards, hours or invoices in the app.No client role that we could find. Clients see time through reports you export or share with them.
Invoices from approved timeTeam. A draft takes the client's approved, billable hours at your rates and locks them while the invoice stands. US dollars, one tax rate, no online payment.Standard and up. An invoice imports tracked time and expenses by client, project and dates. We found no setting that limits it to approved time.
Timer and mobile appNeither. Hours are typed per day and task in the browser, which fits a phone screen. No timer, idle detection or app to install.Every plan. A timer on the web, desktop, phones and a browser extension, with idle detection, and a kiosk for clocking in.
Scheduling and time offNo. A holiday calendar lowers targets on public holidays, but there is no capacity plan, leave request or balance.Paid plans. Time off with balances from Standard; scheduling people onto projects on the higher plans.
Accounting exportTeam. Hours, costs and expenses go to QuickBooks Online or Desktop; Enterprise adds other ERPs. Invoices stay in Clock Clerk.Standard and up. Integrations with QuickBooks and Xero.

When to choose them

When Clockify is the better choice

Clockify is a time tracker first, and a good one. Choose it over Clock Clerk if any of these is what you need.

  • A timer on every device

Clockify runs a start-and-stop timer in the browser, on the desktop, on phones and in a browser extension, and notices when you go idle. Clock Clerk has no timer and no app to install.

  • Shifts, attendance or field work

A kiosk for clocking in, attendance and overtime, and GPS on the higher plans. Clock Clerk records hours per task, not a start and an end time.

  • Planning people's weeks ahead

Clockify schedules people onto projects and tracks time off with balances. Clock Clerk records the hours that were worked and has no leave requests.

  • Weekly approval, or the lowest seat price

Clockify can approve a week at a time, and its annual Standard plan costs less per person than Clock Clerk Team. Clock Clerk approves by calendar month.

When to choose us

When Clock Clerk is the better choice

Clock Clerk is narrower than Clockify, and the narrowness is the point: the work, the talk about it and the hours sit in one place and are signed off once a month.

  • Your managers approve but do not track

Clockify charges for every member, managers included. Clock Clerk charges only the people who logged hours that month, so reviewers, administrators and finance cost nothing.

  • Your projects live on boards

Every Clock Clerk plan has a board per project, with each card's thread and hours on it. With Clockify, boards are a second product.

  • Clients are part of the conversation

Invite a client into a project's threads as a guest, free of charge, and keep the decisions next to the work they are about.

  • An invoice must match what was approved

A Clock Clerk draft is built from approved hours and locks them for as long as it stands, so a bill and a timesheet cannot drift apart.

Questions

Asked while comparing

Can I bring my Clockify history into Clock Clerk?

Not as hours. On Team and Enterprise, Clock Clerk imports tasks from Jira, Azure DevOps, Trello and Notion, but no plan imports time entries from another tracker. Most teams start on the first day of a new month and keep Clockify's reports for the months before it.

Is Clock Clerk cheaper than Clockify?

It depends on who logs time. For 15 people who all do, Clock Clerk Team costs a little more than Clockify Standard billed annually and less than it billed monthly. The more people only approve or read reports, the cheaper Clock Clerk gets, because they are not charged.

Why does a Clock Clerk page say where the other product is better?

Because a trial would show you the gaps anyway, a week later. These pages are checked against each product's published plans and help pages on the date at the top. If something here is wrong or has changed, write to us and we will correct it.
